Our Mission
She’s Got Chess Game: Queens Making Moves is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women and girls of all ages through the game of chess. Our mission is to level the playing field, foster confidence, and create a supportive community where women—whether beginners or seasoned players—can come together, learn, and thrive. By offering mentorship, skill-building opportunities, and a space to connect, we aim to break barriers and champion equality for current and future generations of female strategists and leaders. Join us in empowering queens to make their boldest moves!
About Me

Lena Sernoff
Nonprofit Founder
Lena Sernoff founded She’s Got Chess Game: Queens Making Moves after realizing that all her chess opponents in her community were men. Told as a child that chess was for grown-ups, she only learned the game at age 30 and fell in love with it right away. She wished she had started sooner, with a female community to learn from and play with.
Despite being a global game, only 13% of chess players are women (in other words, female chess players make up just 1% of the world's overall population) with a tendency for gender bias. The organization’s mission is to level the playing field, foster confidence, and build a supportive community where women—whether beginners or seasoned players—can come together, learn, and thrive.
Lena Sernoff has built a career in marketing strategy at companies like Google, Wix, LinkedIn, and Flytrex, alongside two years of teaching. A graduate of Smith College, a historic women’s institution, she specializes in female development and empowerment. She also hosts Girl, You’re Hired, a podcast dedicated to helping women land their dream jobs. Now, through this chess nonprofit, she is a feminist creating more checkmate opportunities for women in life.
